  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Fresh or dried breadcrumbs can be used.
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup beef broth Opt for low-sodium broth.
  • 2 cups sliced mushrooms Fresh button or cremini mushrooms are ideal.
  • 1 cup sour cream Use full-fat for the richest taste.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing the onions.
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes Optional for topping.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.

Cooking

  • In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until translucent.
  • Add sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook for another 5 minutes until softened.
  • Shape the beef mixture into four patties and place them in a greased baking dish.
  • Pour the sautéed onions and mushrooms over the patties, then add beef broth around the edges.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the patties are browned and cooked through.
  • Remove from the oven, mix in the sour cream, and let sit for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, consider mixing in grated cheese before baking. This dish is versatile and can be customized with seasonal vegetables.
