  • 1 lb ground beef Fresh or thawed
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice (uncooked)
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese For topping
  • ½ cup French-fried onions For topping

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked; drain excess fat.
  • Stir in the French onion soup mix, beef broth, and uncooked rice. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Reduce heat to low and cover, cooking for about 15 minutes until the rice is tender.
  • Remove from heat and mix in the sour cream and half of the shredded cheese.
  • Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish and top with the remaining cheese and French-fried onions.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers. Customize by using ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version. Serve with fresh herbs for added color and taste.
