  • 2.5 teaspoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1.5 cups vegetable oil
  • 3 pieces eggs
  • 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon green food coloring

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 0.75 cups unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 4 to 4.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream (if necessary)

Decoration

  • Green sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In another bowl, mix sugar and oil until combined. Add eggs, vanilla, and vinegar, mixing well.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Mix until smooth.
  • Add green food coloring and mix until you have a vibrant color.

Baking

  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  • While cooling, prepare the frosting by beating together the butter and cream cheese until smooth.
  • Add vanilla and salt, then gradually add powdered sugar and mix. Add milk if needed for desired texture.

Assembly

  • Once the cakes are cool, place one layer on a serving plate, spread frosting, and top with the second layer.
  • Frost the top and sides, then decorate with green sprinkles if desired.

Notes

For an enhanced flavor, consider adding a touch of almond extract or citrus zest. Customize the recipe with variations such as a chocolate version or adding shredded coconut.
