Ingredients
  

Cabbage

  • 1 head large head of cabbage Select firm, green cabbage. Savoy cabbage can be an alternative.
  • 8 leaves large leaves of cabbage Blanch in boiling water for 2-3 minutes until pliable.

Filling

  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey Choose lean meat for better flavor.
  • 1 small onion, chopped Can substitute with scallions for milder flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Enhances flavor depth.
  • 1 cup cooked rice or quinoa Use riced cauliflower as a low-carb option, but be cautious of moisture.

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika Add chili powder or cumin for extra zest.

Optional Topping

  • 1 cup shredded cheese Optional for extra flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Remove the cabbage leaves and blanch them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then cool in ice water.

Cooking

  • Cook the ground meat in a skillet over medium heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the meat, cooking for an additional 3 minutes.

Mixing

  • In a large bowl, combine the cooked meat mixture with cooked rice, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well and incorporate the egg for binding.

Assembling

  • Place a portion of the meat mixture onto the center of each cabbage leaf, fold in the sides, and roll up tightly.
  • Place the assembled burgers seam-side down in a baking dish.

Baking

  • Spray the burgers lightly with olive oil and bake for 30-35 minutes until heated through and cabbage is tender.

Finishing Touch

  • If using cheese, sprinkle it on top during the last 5 minutes of baking.

Notes

For added flavor, consider incorporating fresh herbs into the meat mixture. Feel free to customize with various proteins or grains, or squeeze lemon juice over the burgers just before serving for a tangy touch.
