Philly Cheesesteak Meatloaf

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef Use quality ground beef for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Regular or seasoned breadcrumbs work.
  • 1 egg Large egg.
  • ½ cup milk Whole milk preferred for richness.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Adds depth of flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 green bell pepper diced Fresh is preferable.
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing.
  • 8 slices provolone cheese 4 for filling, 4 for topping.
  • Fresh parsley, chopped For garnish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté peppers and onions for 5 minutes until softened. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Press half the meat mixture into the bottom of a loaf pan.
  • Layer 4 slices of provolone over the meat, then add the sautéed peppers and onions.
  • Top with the remaining meat mixture, pressing to seal the edges.

Cooking

  • Bake for 45-50 minutes. In the last 5 minutes, lay the remaining 4 slices of provolone on top and bake until melted.
  • Rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a splash of hot sauce to the meat mixture. Customize using different cheeses such as cheddar or Swiss. Serve with a side of ketchup or dipping sauce for a fun twist.
