Danish Base

  • 1 package puff pastry Thawed if previously frozen.
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, chopped Use ripe strawberries for the best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened Make sure it's at room temperature for easier mixing.
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For added flavor.
  • 1 each egg (for egg wash) Beaten for glazing.
  • Flour For dusting the surface.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • On a floured surface, roll out the puff pastry and cut it into squares.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Place a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square, followed by a spoonful of chopped strawberries.
  • Fold the corners of the pastry over the filling to create a pocket, sealing the edges with a fork.
  • Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Enhance flavors with a pinch of lemon zest or almond extract. Customize with different fruits like cherries or blueberries.
