Ingredients
  

For the Cake

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs

For the Filling and Topping

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, chopped
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • to taste whipped cream for serving (optional)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, mix the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs until well combined.
  • Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
  • Spoon dollops of the cream cheese mixture over the batter, and then sprinkle the chopped strawberries, shredded coconut, and optional nuts over the top.
  • Pour the remaining batter over everything in the dish.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean.
  • Let it cool before serving with whipped cream if desired.

Notes

Add a drizzle of chocolate syrup for extra flavor, experiment with different fruits, and serve warm for a lovely, gooey texture.
