  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced Finely chop or press before adding.
  • 1/2 cup Fresh Herbs (e.g., parsley, thyme, or rosemary), chopped Mix into the dough for freshness.
  • 1 cup Cheese (e.g., mozzarella or cheddar), shredded Mix into the dough before shaping.

Preparation

  • Step 1: Activate the Yeast - Mix 1 1/2 cups of warm water with 1 teaspoon of sugar and 1 packet of active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  • Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients - In a large bowl, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour and 2 teaspoons of salt. Mix well.
  • Step 3: Combine Liquid Ingredients - Add 1/4 cup of olive oil and all the foamy yeast mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Step 4: Knead the Dough - Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Step 5: Add Flavors - Incorporate minced garlic, chopped herbs, and shredded cheese into the dough. Knead briefly.
  • Step 6: Let it Rise - Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Step 7: Shape and Bake - Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Let it rise for 30 minutes, then bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

For maximum flavor, let minced garlic sit for a few minutes. The bread pairs well with olive oil or balsamic vinegar for dipping, and can be served alongside soups or salads.
