Ingredients
  

Main Protein

  • 1 pound ground chicken or shrimp or tofu Ensure the meat is finely minced for even cooking.

Starch/Pasta

  • 20-25 pieces wontons Fresh wontons need no preparation; frozen just need to be thawed.

Seasoning/Spice Blend

  • 3 tablespoons gochujang Adjust the amount based on your spice tolerance.
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes (optional) Add right before serving for extra heat.

Liquids/Dairy

  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth Homemade broth adds extra depth but store-bought is fine.

Aromatics & Vegetables

  • 2 cloves garlic (minced) Fresh aromatics offer a more vibrant taste.
  • 1 tablespoon ginger (grated)
  • 1/4 cup scallions (sliced) Add them right before serving for maximum flavor.
  • 1/4 cup cilantro (for garnish) Use fresh for better flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large pot, heat the chicken or vegetable broth over medium heat for about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in minced garlic and grated ginger, and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add gochujang and stir well. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until smooth.

Cooking

  • Mix in soy sauce and sesame oil, and let simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Carefully drop in the wontons and cook for 5-7 minutes or until they float.
  • Once floating, stir in sliced scallions and optional chili flakes.
  • Ladle the broth and wontons into bowls and garnish with cilantro before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a dash of lime juice before serving. Experiment with different proteins for variations.
